Our favorite mobile battle royale game made it to the most downloaded mobile game of 2020 worldwide for the second consecutive year. The information is based on the data shared by App Annie and includes the downloads of both the iOS App Store and Google App Store.

Developed by 111 Dots Studio and published by Garena, Free Fire is among the most popular battle royale mobile games with more than 100 million active players worldwide. It also broke all records by becoming the first mobile game to cross 100 Billion lifetime views in the previous year. The game got around 72 billion views in 2020 only.

Free Fire’s popularity also lies in special campaigns by Garena. It includes bringing collaboration and partnership content to the game. In 2020 itself, Garena/Free Fire collaborated with La Casa De Papel (aka Money Heist), DJ KSHMR, Hrithik Roshan, and most recently, with Cristiano Ronaldo.

The collaborations bring new in-game events, and the individual collaborations bring new playable characters to the game. Garena’s other efforts are the gameplay changes that include graphics, new features, new modes, and much more.

In 2020, Free Fire broke records in the eSports industry also. The most recent esports tournament, Free Fire Continental Series (FFCS), managed to get 2.5 million viewers simultaneously, making it a modality landmark competition.
