Roblox Trusted Connections Not Working? Here Is How to Fix It and Set It Up the Right Way

Roblox has been rolling out a major communication upgrade called Trusted Connections, and while it opens the door to Party Voice, unfiltered chat, and a closer social experience, a lot of players are running into walls trying to set it up. Whether the QR code scan is not going through, the Trusted Connection badge is not appearing, or you simply cannot find the option on mobile, this guide covers everything you need to know, from the basics of how the system works to the most common bugs and how to work around them.

What Are Roblox Trusted Connections?

Age-checked users 13 and older can unlock new expressive chat features with eligible connections, with more features coming soon. Trusted Connections are a subset of your overall connections, who you know and trust, and just like regular connections, they are a two-way relationship. If either user chooses not to add the other as a Trusted Connection, or removes the other as a Trusted Connection, neither user will see the other with that elevated status.

The key benefit of becoming Trusted Connections is access to Expressive Chat features. Two users who belong to the 13 to 17 group and have added each other as a Trusted Connection will unlock Expressive Chat, where they can voice chat in Party Voice as well as message each other without the usual filters. For adults, the situation is slightly different. Age-verified adults automatically get access to all chat features, and Trusted Connection status is not required when two 18+ users are chatting in a 1:1 conversation.

Age Groups and Eligibility Requirements

Before you can add anyone as a Trusted Connection, both accounts must pass Roblox’s age verification process. Roblox groups accounts into “under 13”, “13+”, and “18+”, and those labels determine who you can connect to and which chat modes you can use. You take a short selfie-style video, a machine learning model estimates your age and assigns an age group to your account, and if it cannot confidently estimate your age, your status stays unconfirmed and you do not get Trusted Connections.

If Roblox’s estimation system determines that a user is actually under 13, it will automatically correct the user’s age to under 13 and remove access to features that are not age-appropriate. If the user doesn’t pass age estimation but is over 13, they can confirm their age through ID verification.

When it comes to cross-age connections, the rules are stricter. Teens aged 13 to 17 cannot create a Trusted Connection with an adult older than 18 unless they use real-life connection methods like live QR code scanning and contact importing. This is intentional. The idea is that Trusted status reflects a preexisting real-life relationship such as family or classmates, not someone met randomly in a game.

Roblox Trusted Connections Tutorial: Step-by-Step

Step 1: Complete Age Verification

Before anything else, both you and the person you want to connect with must complete age verification. Head to your Roblox account settings and look for the age estimation option. Roblox offers facial age estimation with a short video selfie, or ID verification if Roblox offers it for your account or region. Roblox states it deletes images and videos after processing for facial age estimation.

Step 2: Choose Your Connection Method

Adults can only add users aged 13 to 17 as Trusted Connections through Contact Importer or Live QR Code scanning to ensure real-life familiarity. For users in the same age group (both teens or both adults), you have a couple of options:

  • Contact Importer: Match a phone contact to a Roblox account. This method is useful if you have the person saved in your phone already.
  • Live QR Code Scan: The most common method for players who connect online and in person alike.

Step 3: Use the QR Code (Most Common Method)

The QR code is the go-to method for most players, especially when the other person is not in your phone contacts. Here is how it works, based on guidance from the official Roblox support page:

  • Open the Roblox app and go to the Home screen.
  • Tap your profile picture or name in the top right corner.
  • Look for the QR code icon and tap it to open “My QR.”
  • Have your friend scan your code live using their device camera, or use the camera icon on the My QR page to scan theirs.

If you are already connections, scanning their code live will prompt you to upgrade them to a Trusted Connection. Note: if you scan a screenshot of the code or use a shared profile link, they will only be added as a regular connection.

Step 4: Accept the Request and Confirm

Once the scan goes through, a connection request is sent. The other person must accept it from their notifications or your profile page. After both sides accept, the Trusted Connection tag should appear on the profile.

How to Add Trusted Connections on Roblox Mobile

Adding a Trusted Connection on mobile is the most common way players do this, and the steps are straightforward once you know where to look.

  • Open the Roblox mobile app.
  • Tap your profile picture in the top right corner of the screen.
  • Tap on the QR code icon or your name to open your profile page.
  • From here, you can either show your QR code for someone else to scan, or tap the scanner icon to scan theirs.

The live scan must happen in real time, ideally with both devices physically present. Sending the QR code as a screenshot through Discord or any other messaging app will not result in a Trusted Connection, only a regular one.

Roblox Trusted Connections QR Code: What You Need to Know

The QR code is central to how Trusted Connections work, but it comes with some important rules:

  • QR codes must be scanned live. Screenshots will not work.
  • The code is unique to your account and can be found under your profile or the Connect section of the app.
  • If the other person does not complete an age check yet, Roblox may add them as a regular connection first, and can upgrade the relationship after the other person completes the age check and meets eligibility.
  • If scanning a QR code or opening its link only takes you to a profile with no “Trusted” option, either Trusted Connections are not yet rolled out to your account, or one of the accounts has not met the full age-check requirements.

Roblox Trusted Connections Not Working: Common Issues and Fixes

This is where most players get stuck. There are several known bugs and workarounds that the community has identified on the.

Issue 1: Only Shows as a Regular Connection After Scanning

This is one of the most reported problems. Some users report that despite scanning a live QR code, the scan only sends out a normal connection instead of prompting a Trusted Connection upgrade, even when both parties have completed age verification.

One workaround that has helped some users: fully unfriend each other on Roblox first, then have the older individual provide the QR code, so the person in the younger age group is the one doing the scanning.

Issue 2: No “Add Trusted Connection” Option on the Profile

Some users report that after scanning a friend’s live QR code, the only option visible is “Remove Connection,” with no “Add Trusted Connection” button appearing at all, even after completing selfie verification and age checks. If this is happening to you, the most likely culprit is that one or both accounts have not fully completed the age verification process, or the feature has not rolled out to your region yet.

Issue 3: It Works for Some Friends but Not Others

The feature has worked for some users with certain friends but refuses to work with one specific person, despite both accounts being age-verified and both apps being fully up to date. If this is your situation, the issue may be account-specific rather than a settings problem on your end.

Issue 4: Feature Not Available in Your Country

This is a big one that many players have not been told clearly. The Trusted Connections feature has not yet been fully rolled out to all countries, which may explain why the system works for some users in a friend group but not others. If you and a friend are in different regions, and one of those regions has not received the full rollout, the QR scan will not result in a Trusted Connection regardless of what you do.

Issue 5: Delays in the Upgrade Showing Up

Some users have found that after scanning the QR code, the Trusted Connection status does not appear immediately but shows up after roughly 2 to 3 days. One user noted having done this with three different people and finding the delay to be consistent across all of them. It is worth waiting a couple of days before assuming something has gone wrong.

Issue 6: Mixed Verification Methods Causing Conflicts

There is speculation from some users that having one person complete facial verification while the other used ID verification might cause inconsistencies in how the system processes the connection upgrade. While this has not been officially confirmed by Roblox, it is worth keeping in mind if you have exhausted other fixes.

Managing Your Trusted Connections

Once you have successfully added a Trusted Connection, you have full control over the relationship at any time:

  • To downgrade, tap “Remove Trusted Connection” to revert them to a regular connection.
  • To remove them entirely, select “Remove Connection” to delete them from your connections list on both sides.
  • Standard reporting tools remain available at all times. Trusted status does not shield anyone from moderation.

It is also worth noting that safety monitoring is always on in the background. Even with greater communication freedom, all conversations on Roblox, including those between Trusted Connections, remain proactively monitored for critical harm, such as grooming, to provide a safe and positive experience.

Final Thoughts

Roblox Trusted Connections is a genuinely useful feature once it is set up correctly, but the rollout has been bumpy. Between regional availability gaps, age verification inconsistencies, and the strict requirement for live QR scanning, there are plenty of ways for things to go wrong. Some players feel that Roblox released this feature before fully mapping out and resolving its bugs. That said, the core steps are solid: verify your age, open your QR code from your profile, have your friend scan it live (or you scan theirs), and wait for the confirmation. If it still is not working after trying all the steps above, check whether the feature has been fully rolled out to your country, and if not, keep an eye on Roblox’s official support articles at the Roblox Help Center for updates.
