WoW Midnight Patch 12.0.5 – Lingering Shadows: Everything You Need to Know

WoW Midnight Patch 12.0.5 - Lingering Shadows - Everything You Need to Know

World of Warcraft: Midnight’s first content patch, Lingering Shadows, is nearly here. Patch 12.0.5 isn’t a full season reset – but it’s far from a minor tune-up. New outdoor world events, a warband-wide loot progression system, a wildly inventive PvP mode, weapon sheathe customization, and a broad sweep of class tuning make this an update every player should pay attention to.

Midnight launched on March 2, 2026, and Season 1 kicked off on March 17. Now, roughly seven weeks later, Blizzard is ready to expand the sandbox with release of patch 12.0.5 on April 21, 2026. Here’s everything coming in WoW Midnight 12.0.5.

Note: The April 21 release date is inferred from PTR Release Candidate status and a hidden in-game calendar event. Blizzard has not made an official announcement.

Void Assaults

The headline feature of WoW Midnight Patch 12.0.5 is Void Assaults – a new large-scale outdoor world event system set across two iconic Quel’Thalas zones: Eversong Woods and Zul’Aman. The lore hook is compelling: Void factions that once served under Xal’atath are now skirmishing among themselves for dominance, and players get to walk straight into the chaos.

Assaults begin with Void Strikes – smaller skirmish events that rotate weekly between the two zones. Once enough Void Strikes are completed, a larger full Void Assault scenario triggers, requiring many players working together to push back the incursion. Think Dreamsurges from Dragonflight, but with a Quel’Thalas-flavored escalation structure. Completing both tiers rewards loot, currency, and Voidforge progression.

Ritual Sites

Tied directly into the Void Assault loop, Ritual Sites are instanced small-group scenarios that spawn as a result of Void Strike activity. They’re the more focused, intimate counterpart to the large chaotic Assault encounters. Completing Ritual Sites awards Field Accolades, which contribute directly to Great Vault progression – making them worth running even for players deep into Mythic+ and raid content.

Voidforge – The New Loot System

Voidforge is a new warband-wide progression system built around a character named Decimus, who players help construct the Forge itself. Once built, it becomes a powerful catch-up and targeted loot engine for the rest of Season 1.

The system runs on two currencies:

  • Nebulous Voidcores – Earned weekly, used to target specific equipment drops. Great for chasing best-in-slot items on your main or rapidly gearing alts.
  • Ascendant Voidcores – A rarer currency that lets Decimus infuse weapons and trinkets with empowered stats, pushing gear beyond standard item level ceilings.

Because progression is warband-wide, time invested on any character counts toward Voidforge development – a meaningful quality-of-life win for alt-heavy players.

Decor Duels – Hide & Seek PvP in Silvermoon

The most surprising addition in WoW Midnight 12.0.5 is Decor Duels, a 5v5 hide-and-seek PvP mode set inside Silvermoon City, built directly on top of Midnight’s player housing system.

One team of five disguises themselves as housing decor items – chairs, potted plants, bookshelves, barrels, statues – and must blend into the existing environment. The other team hunts them down and must tag disguised players before the timer runs out. Seekers have a limited number of tags, so randomly clicking on every object isn’t a viable strategy. Queue via the Group Finder (PvP tab). Exclusive cosmetic rewards are on offer for both sides.

Weapon Sheathe Transmog

A smaller but fan-favourite quality-of-life upgrade: you can now control exactly where your weapons sit when not in use. Choose between back, side, waist, or fully hidden. Dual-wielders can configure each weapon independently. It’s a small thing that makes a big visual difference for players who care about how their character looks while exploring the world.

New Character Customization

Demon Hunters receive new blue and flameless eye customization options. Void Elf Demon Hunters get new mask options to match their iconic color schemes. Battle Visage (Evoker) – not yet testable, but confirmed: a toggleable spell that lets Dracthyr automatically shift into dragon form for abilities that require it, then snap back to Visage form. Blizzard is working through camera-positioning issues before it goes live for testing.

Class & Spec Tuning

Patch 12.0.5 delivers a broad first pass of class tuning, with Blizzard explicitly confirming more rounds are coming. The focus is on underperforming specs, smoothing burst windows, and reining in AoE outliers before Season 1 settles.

  • Death Knight – Blood survivability buffed. Frost single-target damage increased. New Unholy talent: Cycle of Death.
  • Evoker – Preservation buffed. Blessing of the Bronze can now be cast on players outside your party. Flameshaper single-target viability improved.
  • Paladin – Holy healing output raised via holy power spenders. Tank survivability tuned upward.
  • Warrior – Slayer talents reworked for Arms and Fury. Reap the Storm trigger chance lowered; Bladestorm synergy added as partial compensation.
  • Guardian Druid – Moonless Night AoE bonus cut from 40% to 20% to reduce Mythic+ burst dominance.
  • Monk – Brewmaster self-healing toned down. Mistweaver throughput increased.
  • Shaman – Restoration receives new talent decision points. Elemental and Enhancement see targeted tuning.
  • Hunter & Mage – Spec-level tuning on underperforming builds. Fireball and Frostfire Bolt damage increased by 15%.

Blizzard notes these are only the first round – additional class changes are planned in future PTR builds.

Quality of Life & System Updates

  • Player Housing – Improved House Exterior Editor, better warnings when swapping house types, new budget icons, and improved decor fade-in at distance.
  • UI – Damage Meter now has a minimize/maximize button. Edit Mode now supports Shift-clicking feature checkboxes to enable things like Cooldown Manager and Boss Warnings directly.
  • Professions – Deftness stat scaling slowed for Dragonflight, Khaz Algar, and Midnight professions to fix a post-stat-squish imbalance.
  • Bug Fixes – Various fixes across Paladin, Evoker, and Monk interactions, plus a fix for Sun Darter Hatchling unlock detection.

Conclusion

WoW Midnight Patch 12.0.5 Lingering Shadows is exactly what a healthy mid-season patch should look like: new world content for casual players, a meaningful loot chase for endgame players, and something genuinely new for everyone to talk about. The class tuning pass is broad enough to shift the meta without overturning it – and with more changes still coming, spec rankings could move again before Season 1 is done.

With the PTR at Release Candidate status and the calendar pointing firmly at April 21, now is the time to get ahead of the content. Start thinking about which piece of furniture you’d make the most convincing Seeker bait.
