Neverness to Everness (NTE) Interfering with Roblox – How to Fix the Third-Party Software Error

If you play both Neverness to Everness (NTE) and Roblox on the same PC, there is a good chance you have already run into this frustrating problem. A growing number of players are reporting that launching NTE causes Roblox to display a blunt error message: “Third-party software is interfering with Roblox.” The game then refuses to open or shuts itself down entirely. What makes this especially annoying is that you have done nothing wrong. This is not a case of cheating software or a virus. It is a clash between two legitimate anti-cheat systems, and we are here to walk you through exactly what is happening and how to fix it.

What Is Actually Causing This Error?

When both NTE and Roblox are launched at the same time, Roblox closes on its own and displays the interference error. Even players who are simply pre-downloading NTE are affected, as Roblox will not allow both to be running simultaneously.

The root cause is NTE’s kernel-level anti-cheat driver. NTE’s background anti-cheat driver triggers Roblox’s own security measures, with Roblox incorrectly flagging NTE as exploiting or reverse engineering software, resulting in a false-positive.

This is an important distinction to understand. Roblox runs an anti-cheat system that monitors for software it considers incompatible or potentially harmful. When two games that both use aggressive kernel-level protection run on the same machine, they can misidentify each other as threats. The same kind of conflict can happen with other tools you may have installed, which we will cover below.

The NTE-Specific Fixes (Start Here)

Since the conflict is specifically tied to NTE’s anti-cheat driver, there are targeted solutions that work faster than generic troubleshooting.

The most effective fix involves running PowerShell as an administrator and entering the following command:

Set-ItemProperty -Path "HKLM:\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HtAntiCheatDriver" -Name "Start" -Value 4

After entering this, reboot your PC. Launch Roblox after that and it should work normally. If you want to play NTE instead, repeat the command but change the “Value” to 3 instead of 4. Unfortunately, there is presently no way to play both games at the same time.

This command essentially disables NTE’s anti-cheat driver at startup, which prevents the conflict from occurring when you want to play Roblox. Flipping it back to 3 re-enables it when you switch back to NTE. It is a manual toggle for now, but it works reliably.

A simpler alternative is to just restart your PC. The anti-cheat software causing the issue only starts up when NTE is opened, so restarting closes all background applications and you can directly open Roblox afterward.

If neither of those approaches resolves things, you will need to uninstall NTE entirely and then reinstall Roblox. This is a last resort, but it does clear the problem completely.

General Fixes for Third-Party Software Interfering with Roblox

Even if NTE is not your specific issue, the same “third-party software is interfering” error can be triggered by many other programs commonly installed on gaming PCs. Here is how we approach isolating and resolving the conflict.

Step 1: Close All Background Applications Before Launching Roblox

Before you even open Roblox, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager and end anything unnecessary. The most important apps to close completely include:

  • Discord (especially its overlay feature)
  • MSI Afterburner and RivaTuner Statistics Server
  • GeForce Experience overlay
  • OBS or any other screen recording software
  • FPS unlockers
  • ReShade or any graphics injection tools

These programs are not malicious, but they all hook into system processes in ways that Roblox’s anti-cheat interprets as suspicious.

Step 2: Disable Startup Programs

Some of these tools launch automatically in the background without you realizing. Press Win + R, type “msconfig,” navigate to the Startup tab, open Task Manager from there, and disable non-essential applications. Restart your PC afterward and try launching Roblox fresh.

Step 3: Temporarily Disable Your Antivirus

This step is for testing purposes only. Some antivirus tools with real-time protection can inadvertently trigger Roblox’s anti-cheat. Turn off real-time protection temporarily, launch Roblox, and check if the error disappears. If it does, add Roblox as a permanent exception in your antivirus settings rather than leaving protection disabled.

Step 4: Remove Suspicious or Conflicting Software

This is one people underestimate. Even if you are not actively using a tool, having it installed can be enough to trigger detection. Uninstall anything that falls into these categories: game exploit tools, memory editors, debuggers, macro automation tools, and unknown performance booster or tweak applications. If something was downloaded from an unofficial source and promises to speed up your PC or improve game performance, treat it with suspicion.

Step 5: Restart Windows Explorer

This is a quick fix that occasionally works when the error appears unexpectedly. Open Task Manager, find Windows Explorer in the list, right-click it, and select Restart. Then try launching Roblox again. It sounds too simple, but explorer.exe can sometimes be flagged when it is in a particular state.

Step 6: Perform a Clean Boot

This is the most thorough way to identify exactly which program is causing the conflict. Press Win + R, type “msconfig,” go to the Services tab, check “Hide all Microsoft services,” then click “Disable all.” Restart your PC and try Roblox. If it launches without the error, you know a third-party service is responsible. Re-enable services one by one, restarting each time, until you find the culprit.

Step 7: Reinstall Roblox Cleanly

If nothing else has worked, corrupted Roblox files can sometimes be the hidden cause of false detections. Uninstall Roblox completely, manually delete any remaining Roblox folders from your system, and do a fresh installation from the official Roblox website.

Final Thoughts

In the case of NTE specifically, this is a problem with Roblox incorrectly flagging NTE, so Roblox will need to address it from their end. There is currently no official acknowledgment from Roblox, but a patch addressing the false-positive is the expected long-term resolution. Until then, the PowerShell workaround or a simple PC restart before switching games is your most reliable option.
