Universal Tower Defense X has officially dropped Update 3, and I have to say, the meta looks very different from what we were used to before. If you are still running the same lineup you had in Update 2.75, you are probably struggling more than you should. I spent time going through showcases, community picks, and unit breakdowns to bring you this full tier list. Let us get into it.
What Changed in Update 3
Universal Tower Defense Update 3 brought in several new secret units, relic buffs for older characters, and some big changes to how certain mechanics interact. The biggest shift is that raw DPS no longer tells the whole story. Units are now judged on their ability to stun, slow, apply damage-over-time, break armor, and support the team overall. We saw this coming in 2.75, but Update 3 pushes it even further.
Units like Katakuri, Big Mom, Kaido, and the new unrivaled character have all changed how we think about building a team. Some older favourites like Gojo and King Sailor are still very strong, but they now share the spotlight with some incredible new additions.

S++ Tier: The Absolute Best Units
These are the units that we think every serious player should be building around. They bring either overwhelming damage, insane utility, or both at once.
The Strongest of Today (Gojo) is still one of the most complete units in the game. His Domain Expansion applies a massive 30-second Timestop, which is simply broken for crowd control. His Limitless passive slows enemies automatically as they enter range and forces them to take extra damage while inside. On top of that, he hits the whole map with a 300% damage burst through Infinite Purple. I still believe his overall value is hard to beat, especially because he fits almost any team without needing a strict synergy setup.

King Sailor (Sinbad) continues to be an elite pick. His leader skill alone is worth building around, giving sword-tag units a massive damage boost and reducing cost for the whole team. His crit buffs and chain lightning pressure scale extremely well in late-game content. He does need a proper team to reach his full ceiling, but in the right comp, no one does it better as a carry-support hybrid.

Luffy (Gear 5 / Gear 4 / Gear 2) is the standout new unit of Update 3, and I genuinely think he is the best unit in the game right now. He levels up through in-game XP or gems and takes a different form depending on the path you choose. Gear 5 alone hits 5.5 million damage, applies burn, stalls enemies, and makes the area bouncy to knock them back. Gear 2 hits up to 10 million with a 1.43 cooldown and can attack up to 20 enemies along the path. He is a hybrid unit with a leader-skill level of presence. If you can get him, you should.
Alpha Devil and Devil Hunter from the DMC update are both legitimately S++ material. Alpha Devil brings incredible range flexibility through weapon swapping, while Devil Hunter brings insane DoT value and a manageable cost of around 67,000. Together they form one of the best damage pairs in the game right now.

S+ Tier: Meta Carries and Supports
Katakuri is a newly added secret unit that I think a lot of people are sleeping on. He is a ground unit who applies a liquid dough status to enemies, guaranteeing critical hits while they are affected. His passive gives guaranteed crits on attack, and on full stacks, his next attack deals 250% damage, which can also crit. Once bugs are fixed, I believe he will be one of the strongest DPS units in the entire game. Right now he ranks just above Anking on our list.

Kaido is a hybrid unit with one of the most interesting kits in Update 3. He has a rage bar that builds as he attacks, and at 65 rage he transforms into a hybrid form with true damage. At 100 he enters dragon form, where you can manually control his fire breath, cyclone, and beam attacks. He applies burn, stun, electrify, and slow all at once, making him arguably the best support-damage hybrid in this tier.

Whitebeard (Blackbeard in some builds) is a support unit that many are underrating. His passive buffs peace-tag units with 50% damage on debuff, and at E4 that goes up to 70%. He applies stun every attack, stores damage over five hits, and then releases a massive 350% AoE follow-up that also applies quake stun for 15 seconds to all enemies on the map. That is a one-time-use ability, but it is a game-changer in the right moment.

Ancient Shinobi (Madara) and Nutaru (Beast) are both elite carries for long-form content like Infinite and Ragnarok. Ancient Shinobi gets even more value from the Reanimation passive, sacrificing extra placements to become a supercarry with up to 200% bonus damage at E6. Nutaru’s Beast Mode adds crit rate, crit damage, and a stronger attack cycle that rewards playing with Ancient Shinobi through Synchro Drive.

S Tier: Very Strong Units Worth Investing In
These units are not as flashy as the top tier, but we think they hold their own in nearly any team.
- Ant King (Savage) snowballs hard through kills, stacking up to 50% damage at E6 and bringing strong AoE from two placements at a cost of 63,000.
- Crow Shinobi (Itachi) applies Black Burn and Time Snail for consistent DoT pressure and pairs beautifully with DoT-heavy comps.
- Phantom Captain summons planes that track enemies independently of range, with huge first-spawn burst from her Blessed Enterprise passive.
- Usopp is a hybrid unit with a unique trap system that covers the entire map when no enemies are in range. He pairs well with long-range setups and keeps pressure going even from the back line.
- Doflamingo brings stun, slow, and a birdcage ability that hits all enemies every 10 seconds. He is more of a filler pick but works well above Itachi in most support-damage builds.
Key Support Units You Should Never Skip
Support units are not optional in Update 3. The game actively rewards teams that combine damage with crowd control and team buffs.
Virtual Idol (Miku) remains the best team buffer in the game. She fits in almost every serious team and synergizes with nearly every top carry.
Bulmo is a must-run economy support. We almost never skip her in late-game content because her cost reduction compounds over time and lets you upgrade your main carries much faster.
Big Mom is a hybrid support who also heals, summons ghosts for extra damage, and stuns everything in range every 12 seconds. Each stunned enemy gives her range and damage for 10 seconds. She also spawns flame and lightning clouds as sub-towers at final upgrade, applying burn and electrify on follow-up attacks. I think she sits comfortably above most pure supports in this update.
Ice Empress and Bambee both bring hard crowd control that complements DoT-heavy team comps. If you are running a Bleed or Burn setup, you want at least one of these two on your team.
Units That Fell Off in Update 3
Not everyone made it through the patch in good shape. Here is a quick look at who lost ground:
- Nelly received a relic buff that helps her somewhat, but her base kit is still too inconsistent to compete at the top level.
- Spade got a relic buff as well, though we still think he lands in S tier at best rather than reclaiming a meta spot.
- Itachi and Sasuke still work in support roles but are now clearly outclassed by newer additions.
Final Thoughts
Update 3 is shaping up to be one of the most dynamic patches Universal Tower Defense X has seen. I think the top 10 right now looks something like this:
- Luffy (all forms)
- Gojo
- King Sailor
- Alpha Devil
- Devil Hunter
- Ancient Shinobi
- Katakuri
- Kaido
- Nutaru
- Whitebeard
Keep in mind that several units are still bugged, and some interactions have not been fully tested yet. We will update this list as more information comes in. Drop your thoughts in the comments and let us know if you think we placed anyone too high or too low. We read every comment and we genuinely want to know what is working for you in the current meta.
