Update 0.5 for Anime Story 2 on Roblox just dropped, and it has completely shaken up the meta. We have spent a good amount of time testing units, running different team comps, and grinding through story mode, tower, raids, and the slime apocalypse event. If you are trying to figure out which units are worth your gems and which ones you can ignore, we have you covered.
Quick Tier Summary
| Tier | Notable Units |
|---|---|
| S | Asta Devil, Kaizen, Shadow Knight, Gojo, White Lotus, Slime Demon, Flame Lion |
| A | Julius King, Broly, Yuno Star, Aura Farmer, Tengen, Ant King |
| B | Pride Sun, Itachi, Anti-Hero, Ichigo, Vegeta Blue |
| C/Meh | Luck, 23rd Magic Emperor, Goku Black, Sasuke, Buu |
The New Leader Category Changes Everything
One of the biggest additions in this Anime Story 2 update is the introduction of the leader mechanic. If a unit is placed in slot one, their leader skill activates and buffs your team. This single change has made certain units dramatically more valuable, and it is one of the first things you need to understand before building your roster.
We think Asta Devil is the best leader in the game right now, without question. His leader skill gives all allies a flat 15% damage boost. On top of that, he is immune to stun, burn, poison, black flames, frostbite, and freeze. He also attacks twice in the first round, and every kill he gets permanently boosts his damage by 25% while healing the whole team for 20% of their max HP. The healing requires a kill to trigger, which limits his value in some scenarios, but in infinite mode he is an absolute monster.
Flame Lion is our second pick for leader. Her skill doubles all burn, black flame, and flame-related damage for the entire team, and every attack she lands triggers a second flame hit. When you pair her with Tempest, the black flames combo alone makes her one of the best damage amplifiers we have tested. We like her leader skill more than Yuno’s in the current meta because straight damage amplification beats HP buffs when most late-game threats can one-shot your team anyway.
S-Tier Units Worth Building Around
Asta Devil sits at the top of our DPS list as well. Yes, his base stats are not great, and he desperately needs a good artifact and Monarch to reach his ceiling. But the combination of his immunity, double attack on round one, and self-scaling damage makes him a priority pull.
Kaizen Ascended is one of the most impactful units we have used in tower and boss fights. He stuns three random enemies at the start of every round and deals 200% more damage on his first attack. That stun alone can save your run in high-level content.

Shadow Knight is criminally underrated by newer players. He marks all enemies at the start of battle, and whenever a marked enemy dies, he immediately attacks again and applies bleed stacking at 80% damage per hit. Pair him with Gojo and you have one of the most consistent DOT team comps in the game right now.

Gojo doubles all damage over time effects on the board. That sounds straightforward, but the implications are huge. Pair him with Beerus, who has a 50% chance to poison for 90% damage, and that poison effectively becomes 180% damage. He does not hit hard himself, but as a force multiplier in DOT builds, he is almost mandatory.
White Lotus recently got a second passive, which bumped her value considerably. Enemies below 40% HP take 50% more damage from your entire team, and she has a 50% chance to freeze targets and apply two stacks of frostbite. She pairs perfectly with high-DPS setups for finishing off tanky bosses.

Slime Demon, evolved into Evil Slime, is the best water team support by a wide margin. He buffs every water unit by 50% damage and boosts all other elements by 10%. He also applies black flames that deal continuous damage and force enemies to take 10% more from all sources. For the slime apocalypse event, we consider him almost essential.
Solid A-Tier Picks
- Julius King brings a rare first-attack freeze on all enemies and revives once with reduced HP. The freeze is only guaranteed on his first attack, so position him carefully. As a support, he is reliable in tower runs.
- Broly is the best unit in the game specifically for water-type events. His double damage with elemental advantage, especially during slime apocalypse, makes him a top S-tier pick for that content. Outside of it, we rate him high A.
- Yuno Star fills multiple roles. His leader skill gives rivals 20% max HP, and his star mechanic heals your lowest-HP ally after every attack. When the strongest enemy drops below 50% HP, he also gets a 100% damage boost to finish them off.
- Aura Farmer (Sid) has a 20% chance to dodge incoming damage and deals 50% more damage to enemies above 35% HP. His raw stats carry him, and with a good trait and artifact, his numbers are competitive with most S-tier DPS units.

Units That Disappoint Despite the Hype
Pride Sun gets a lot of attention but we find him inconsistent. His cycling through morning, noon, and night forms sounds great until you realize the previous form’s buffs get wiped before the next one kicks in. If your rotation is not perfect, he just dies. We keep him in B-tier.
Luck is one of the biggest letdowns in update 0.5. His passive is just attack first, with low DPS. Attack-first sounds useful, but when the damage output does not back it up, it is a passive that rarely makes a difference in practice.
The 23rd Magic Emperor has an interesting elemental rotation mechanic, but we found the execution underwhelming. The element cycling changes his stats effect, which gives him some support value, but as a DPS he does not deliver enough to justify the investment.
Final Thoughts
The Anime Story 2 leader mechanic is the most important system to understand in this update. We strongly recommend building your roster around one of the top three leaders: Asta, Flame Lion, or Yuno. From there, fill your team with a DOT support like Gojo and a high-DPS carry.
If you are a newer player, Ace is still one of the easiest units to farm and will carry you through most of story mode. For end-game content like tower and raids, invest in Shadow Knight and Kaizen as quickly as you can. We have seen some players sleep on Shadow Knight simply because his description sounds less flashy, and that is a mistake.
The meta is still settling after update 0.5, and we expect more team comps to emerge as players experiment with the new leader skills. We will keep testing and update this list as the community figures out new broken combos.
