Grow a Garden 2 has finally launched on Roblox, and we have been exploring everything the game has to offer. One of the biggest new additions in this sequel is the pet system. Unlike in many other Roblox farming games, pets in Grow a Garden 2 are not just cosmetic. They follow us around the farm and provide real passive bonuses that can change how we play. Whether we want to grow crops faster, protect our harvest, or even steal from other players, the right pet makes all the difference. In this guide, we are breaking down every pet currently in the game, how to get them, and which ones we think are worth your Sheckles.
What Are Pets in Grow a Garden 2
Pets are companions that follow us around our garden plot and provide passive abilities. Each pet has a unique bonus that activates simply by having it equipped. We do not need to do anything special to trigger their effects. They roam our plots on their own and work in the background. Some pets boost our movement, some speed up plant growth, some protect our fruits, and the rarest ones can even passively collect produce for us or double our chances of rare mutations.
The game currently features pets across multiple tiers. These tiers range from Common at the lower end all the way up to Super at the top. The higher the tier, the more powerful and impactful the pet’s ability. Naturally, higher-tier pets also cost significantly more Sheckles to purchase.

There is also the Black Dragon, a Super-tier pet that can breathe fire on intruders. Its exact obtainment method is still unknown at the time of writing.
How to Get Pets in Grow a Garden 2
The main way to get pets right now is to purchase them when they spawn around the lobby. Pets appear naturally in the lobby area, and each one has a visible countdown timer above its head. We need to walk up to a pet and buy it with Sheckles before that timer runs out. Once the timer expires, the pet disappears, and we lose our chance to grab it.

What makes this system interesting is the competitive element. Once we purchase a pet, it begins walking toward our garden. However, if another player pays more Sheckles for the same pet before it arrives, it will change direction and head toward their garden instead. This means we sometimes need to be quick and willing to outbid others for the pets we want.
Apart from map spawns, pets can also be obtained through Eggs or purchased directly with Robux. Trading with other players is another option the game supports. As the game matures and more content is added, we expect these methods to expand.
How to Unlock More Pet Slots
By default, we start with only 3 pet slots. This means we can only equip 3 pets at one time. If we want to run more pets simultaneously, we need to expand our slots by spending Sheckles. Here is what it costs to unlock additional slots:
- Spend 200,000 Sheckles to unlock one extra slot, giving us a total of 4.
- Spend 1,000,000 Sheckles to unlock two more slots, giving us a total of 5.
We recommend prioritizing slot expansion once we have a solid income stream going. More pets mean more passive bonuses stacking at the same time, and that adds up fast.
Best Pets to Get First in Grow a Garden 2
Since Grow a Garden 2 is still fresh, not everyone will have millions of Sheckles to throw around right away. For early-game progression, we suggest focusing on the following pets first.
The Bunny is a great starting pick. It costs only 20,000 Sheckles and the walk speed bonus it gives us makes moving around the map much faster. This is especially useful if we plan to explore other plots or engage in stealing. Speed is an underrated advantage in the early game.
The Deer is arguably the most straightforwardly useful pet for any farmer. Its 10% plant growth speed bonus that directly translates to more harvests per session. More harvests mean more Sheckles, and more Sheckles mean we can afford the bigger pets faster. We see the Deer as a core investment for anyone focused on farming efficiency.
The Bee is a strong pick for players who spend time away from their garden. At 1,000,000 Sheckles, it is expensive, but it actively deters thieves while we are off doing other things. If we have a valuable garden worth protecting, the bees practically pay for themselves.
Finally, the Raccoon is the most talked-about pet in the game right now. Its ability to sneak out at night and steal from unguarded gardens, combined with a +25 raise on our steal limit, makes it uniquely powerful in the player-vs-player side of Grow a Garden 2. If stealing is a core part of our strategy, the Raccoon is the pet we need to save up for.
The pet system in Grow a Garden 2 adds a satisfying new layer to the farming loop we all love. We will keep this guide updated as the game adds more pets and reveals additional obtainment methods.
