We started with the free Bronze Rod, which the Fishing Shop hands out the moment we walk in. Catching fifty fish upgrades that into a Silver Rod, and that upgrade matters more than it sounds. While we were experimenting, we actually managed to catch a Silver Karp using only the Bronze Rod. It took several attempts and a lot of missed timing, but it proved that rod level is not a hard requirement for catching better Karp. It mostly affects how easy the catch becomes.
Gold Karp felt like a different story entirely. We tried repeatedly with the Bronze Rod, and the fish refused to bite, no matter how we aimed. Our best guess, based on how the Silver Karp behaved with an upgraded rod, is that a Silver Rod makes Gold Karp realistically catchable. According to the official Summer Camp notes, players can claim it by trading in one Rainbow Karp along with a hefty acorn cost, making it an Ultra Rare reward for committed fishers.
The Clubtail Dragonfly does not require any special bait or trading at all. We just needed to save up 13,000 acorns and bought them directly from the shop. Its design leans more delicate and colorful compared to the bulkier Tealwood Monster, and we found ourselves drawn to it almost as much.
Our Honest Take On The Grind
We will be straightforward. Saving up 75 Bronze, 35 Silver, and 15 Gold Karp takes real time. This is not a pet we casually stumbled into on day one. It demands consistent daily fishing, regular taskboard completion, and a bit of patience when the Karp refuse to bite.
That said, we think the payoff justifies the effort. A Legendary pet that is locked behind an actual skill-based minigame, rather than a flat acorn price, feels more rewarding to finally claim. We would rather earn something through repeated effort than just open our wallet for it.
Tips We Wish We Knew Earlier
A few things made our grind noticeably smoother once we figured them out.
- Complete every taskboard alert before spending acorns on bait, since free bait adds up fast
- Fish near the pier first, since Karp density tends to be higher around docks than open shoreline
- Aim slightly ahead of a Karp’s face rather than directly on top of it for a cleaner bite
- Click quickly the moment the bite timer appears, since hesitation costs the catch
- Check the lake daily, since Karp colors and spawn patterns can shift between in-game days
