Fisch Tanned and Super Tanned Mutation Guide – Best Methods and Odds Explained

Fischfest 2 has brought a fresh wave of mutation hunting, and two names keep popping up in every Fisch server right now. We are talking about Tanned and Super Tanned. If you have been grinding the event and wondering why your Crabby Coconut keeps coming out plain, this guide breaks down exactly what these mutations do and how you can actually get them without wasting your coins.

What Are Tanned and Super Tanned Mutations

Let us clear up the biggest confusion first. Tanned and Super Tanned are not separate fish; you need to hunt them down. They are mutations that can land on many different fish during the event, including the popular Crabby Coconut. So when someone says they caught a Tanned Crabby Coconut, it simply means a regular Crabby Coconut rolled the Tanned mutation at the moment of catching it.

Visually, Tanned turns your fish into shades of dark orange. It boosts the sell value of that fish by 1.5 times, which is a nice little bonus on its own. Super Tanned takes things further. It gives your fish a deep red-brown color and multiplies its sell value by a massive 10. That difference in value is exactly why so many players are chasing the rarer version, even though the grind takes longer.

Once you stop treating these as fixed spawns and start treating them as random rolls, the whole event becomes a lot easier to plan around.

Methods to Get the Tanned Mutation

There are three known ways to land a Tanned mutation right now, and they are not all worth your time equally.

  • Appraising your fish gives you a chance at Tanned, but the odds sit at roughly 0.004 percent during Fischfest 2. That is so low that most of us would burn through coins for nothing.
  • The Sunhat Starfish companion gives you close to a 10 percent boost toward Tanned, but you need to finish every single Captain Conquest to unlock it.
  • Fishing in Tropical Sun weather gives you around a 15 percent chance, making it the strongest single method available right now.

We would skip appraising entirely unless you genuinely have nothing better to do with your coins. The smarter play is to wait for Tropical Sun weather and fish through it patiently. If you already have Sunhat Starfish unlocked, equip it during that weather window and let both boosts work together.

Methods to Get the Super Tanned Mutation

Super Tanned follows a similar pattern, just with much steeper odds. Appraising can technically produce it, but the chance drops to somewhere around 0.000025 percent. At that rate, you would need to spend an amount of coins most of us will never realistically gather. We genuinely would not recommend going down that road.

The far better options are the same two methods that help with tanning. Tropical Sun weather and the Sunhat Starfish companion both give you close to a 1 percent chance at Super Tanned. That number looks small, but compared to appraising, it is in a completely different league.

If your goal is Super Tanned specifically, you need patience. A 1 percent chance means most of your catches during Tropical Sun will still come out as Tanned or with no mutation at all. Keep fishing through every Tropical Sun window you get, and treat each Super Tanned catch as a genuine highlight rather than something you can force on command.

Understanding the Sunhat Starfish Bonus Properly

This is where a lot of players get confused, so let us break it down clearly. Sunhat Starfish gives a flat plus 20 percent boost to Fischfest 2 mutations, and that climbs to plus 35 percent once you max out the companion’s level.

Here is the part people misread. That bonus does not mean you get a 20 percent chance at Tanned and another 20 percent chance at Super Tanned stacked on top of each other. Fischfest 2 has around 15 or more mutations in its pool, and the bonus gets spread across that entire pool. So the companion increases your overall mutation chance, and that increased chance then gets divided among every possible mutation, not handed entirely to the one you want.

This is exactly why leveling up Sunhat Starfish matters so much. Going from plus 20 percent to plus 35 percent widens the slice each mutation receives, including Tanned and Super Tanned. It also explains why pairing the companion with Tropical Sun weather works so well. You are stacking two genuinely separate boosts instead of relying on one number that looks bigger than it actually is.

Our Recommended Strategy

Based on everything we have tested and seen across the community, here is the approach we would suggest if you want consistent results.

  • Finish all Captain Conquests early so Sunhat Starfish is ready before you start serious farming.
  • Save your fishing sessions for Tropical Sun weather whenever it appears.
  • Equip Sunhat Starfish during that weather for a combined boost.
  • Avoid appraising unless you have spare coins you do not mind losing.

Tanning is genuinely achievable within a few solid Tropical Sun sessions if you have the companion equipped. Super Tanned takes considerably longer, so set realistic expectations and keep at it across multiple event days rather than expecting it in one sitting.

If you are working through Crabby Coconut objectives or any other mutation-related quest this Fischfest, this combination of weather and companion remains your most efficient path. We will keep tracking any changes to these rates as the event progresses, so check back if something feels off during later phases of Fischfest 2.
