Anime Expeditions just dropped its first major content drop, Update 0.5, and it brought four new villain units with it. Out of all of them, Cursed Immortal stands out the most. He is built around Zeref from Fairy Tail, and he does not fight like a normal unit at all. We spent hours testing him out, and here is everything we learned about getting him, evolving him, and using him properly.
What Makes Cursed Immortal Different

Most units in tower defense games sit in one spot and shoot. Cursed Immortal does not do that. He walks along the path instead, and he does not take or deal collision damage while passing through enemies. Instead, he ticks damage to every enemy inside his aura, over and over, as he moves.
This alone makes him feel unique. He is a Mythic-rarity unit, part of the Dark and Magical typings, and he was released alongside three other villains on July 25, 2026. His whole identity revolves around a meter system rather than a flat attack stat, which is rare for this genre.
The Black Magic Meter Explained
Cursed Immortal carries a Black Magic meter that starts at zero. This meter decides which state he is in, and each state changes how his aura behaves.

- Caring State: the meter rises. He deals 50 percent of his current damage every second, across 50 percent of his range.
- Cold State: the meter drops. He deals 125 percent of his current damage every second, but only within 25 percent of his range.
- Switching states also raises his critical chance, so the swap itself becomes part of his damage output.
This back-and-forth is what makes him tricky to use effectively. He hits wider and softer in one state, then tighter and harder in the other. Players who understand this timing get far more value out of him than those who drop him and forget about him. How to Get Cursed Immortal
Cursed Immortal only appears on the Villain Banner. This banner sits separately from the regular gem banner, and it lives in the summons menu. You will see a single Summon button and a Summon 10x button, both of which cost Villain Coins instead of gems.
Villain Coins come from the new Villain Invasion event mode. This mode splits into acts, and running them repeatedly is the fastest way to stack up coins. We noticed the pity system kicks in around 400 pulls, so patience matters here. Do not expect to get him on your first few tries. Mythic pulls rarely come easy, and this banner is no exception.
Evolving Into Cursed Immortal (Black Sun)

The base form is strong, but the real power comes after evolution. Cursed Immortal evolves into Cursed Immortal (Black Sun), and this version is the one worth building your whole roster around.
To evolve him, head to the Evolution station and select the Zeref-inspired unit. You will need to submit a few materials:
- Gold, earned by clearing Acts in Challenge mode
- Sprites, also earned through Challenge mode or crafting
- A Cursed Book, purchased from the Villain Invasion Shop for 5,000 Villain Coins
The Cursed Book is usually the bottleneck. Since it costs Villain Coins, we recommend farming one Villain Invasion act on repeat rather than jumping between different acts. It keeps your route efficient and your rewards predictable.
Is Cursed Immortal Worth Using
We think he is one of the strongest picks in the current meta. Community tier lists released after Update 0.5 place Cursed Immortal, along with Dark Mage, among the top damage dealers in the game right now, thanks to their strong DPS potential and crowd-clearing ability.
His crowd control alone makes him valuable. Since his aura hits everything nearby as he walks, he thrives against large enemy waves rather than single tough targets. He pairs especially well with units like Toy Maker, which can hold enemies in place while Cursed Immortal makes his rounds and racks up ticks.
One thing we want players to know before investing resources into him: he is expensive to fully max out. Fully upgrading his aura and stats costs a significant amount of currency, so treat him as a long-term investment rather than something you finish in one sitting.
Our Final Take
Cursed Immortal brings something genuinely fresh to Anime Expeditions. The meter-based state swap makes him feel more like a puzzle than a typical damage unit, and that is a good thing. If you already pulled him from the Villain Banner, prioritize the Cursed Book grind first, since that tends to slow players down the most. Once evolved, his aura damage and crowd control make him a strong core piece for both story stages and the newer Villain Invasion content.
We will keep updating this guide as more trait data and evolved stat breakdowns come out. For now, Cursed Immortal earns a solid recommendation from us, especially for players who like units that reward a bit of strategy over simple stat checks.
