The Rift Event is the biggest update Steal an Egg has seen so far. It adds a timed boss fight, a brand new currency, and a pet sacrifice system that hands out eggs you cannot get anywhere else. Roblox rolled this out as a limited window at first, but the core loop now runs on a repeating schedule inside the game itself. If you have been grinding eggs the old way, this update changes your priorities completely.
There are two systems here, and players often mix them up. One is the Rift Boss, a server-wide fight that opens every 30 minutes. The other is the Rift Machine, a permanent station in the lobby that asks for pet sacrifices instead of combat. They give different rewards, so treat them as two separate goals.
How the Rift Boss Fight Works
A purple portal tears open somewhere on the map every half hour. Everyone on your server gets a notification, and anyone can walk in and join the fight. You do not need a party or an invite. More players inside the portal make the fight go faster, so it pays to jump in the moment you see it.

The boss itself is called the Abyss Overlord, and it fights in two phases. First, you need to smash the crystals surrounding it. These crystals power its shield, and the boss stays untouchable until every one is destroyed. Once the crystals fall, the Overlord exposes its arms. That is your window to attack directly. Keep repeating this crystal and arm cycle until its health bar empties.
Watch your positioning during the arm phase. The boss throws out wide attacks right after each exposed window, and getting caught resets your rhythm. Players who dodge cleanly clear the fight in under a minute once they know the pattern.
Boss Tokens and the Boss Shop
Beating the Overlord pays out between 1,200 and 1,500 Boss Tokens per kill, along with a Secret Rift Egg. That egg drops straight into your inventory, and you place it in your pen just like any other egg you steal.

Boss Tokens only work in the Boss Shop, and the stock there is small. You will usually see a Cash Booster, a Speed Boost, a Treadmill Booster, and a Fractured Mutation consumable. Three of those are timed boosts that wear off in minutes. The fourth one is worth saving for.
The Fractured Mutation costs 400 tokens and adds a permanent 10 percent money boost to any pet you apply it to. Unlike the boosts, this effect never expires. Our advice is simple. Skip the temporary items and bank your tokens toward Fractured instead, especially if you already have a strong pet sitting in your collection.
To use it, walk up to an egg that has not hatched yet and apply the consumable directly. It does not work from your inventory screen, and the window closes once the egg hatches, so time it before that happens.
Boss Mastery Rewards Add Up Over Time
Every Overlord kill also counts toward your Boss Mastery track. This runs completely separately from your token balance, so you never have to choose between spending tokens and progressing the track. Rewards unlock automatically as your kill count rises, and later milestones include eggs that already carry the Fractured mutation baked in. If you are farming the boss regularly anyway, this track fills up as a bonus on the side.
The Rift Machine and Pet Sacrifice

Away from the boss fight, a separate Rift sits near the Trails Shop in the lobby. This one wants pets, not combat. It asks for three specific animals at a time, and the request changes every three hours on a rotation shared across every server. If your current pets do not match what is needed, you can reroll the request for 45 Robux.
Sacrificing all three animals hands you one Rift Egg from whichever banner is active. There are three egg types in the pool. Riftborn Eggs come up most often, Riftbeast Eggs land less frequently, and Shattered Rift Eggs are the rarest of the three. Fifteen exclusive animals exist across the full rotation, split five to a banner, so getting all of them takes patience across multiple resets.

The Shattered Rift Egg deserves special attention. It is the only source of the Shattered Colossus, a Divine rarity pet with an extremely thin drop chance. That single pet reportedly earns billions per second once hatched, which makes chasing this specific banner worthwhile even with the odds against you.
Tips to Get the Best Rift Eggs Faster
A few habits make this grind noticeably smoother:
- Check your inventory for egg rarity before hatching. This saves you from wasting a hatch cycle on the wrong tier.
- Always pick the smallest available egg when you have a choice. Smaller eggs hatch faster than larger ones.
- Keep a mental note of which pets the current banner needs so you are not scrambling when the rotation resets.
- Join every Rift Boss window you can. More kills mean faster progress on both tokens and Mastery at the same time.
Final Thoughts
The Rift Event turns Steal an Egg into something with real long-term strategy instead of just farming the same eggs on repeat. Between the boss fight, the token shop, and the sacrifice machine, there is enough here to keep players busy well past the first few sessions. Focus on stacking Boss Tokens toward Fractured, track the banner rotation for the pets you actually want, and treat every Rift notification as a reason to stop what you are doing and jump in.
