Blox Fruits Janus Quest – How to Unlock the Middle Town Secret Star

Middle Town hides more than shops and a fountain. Tucked inside one of its buildings sits Janus, a developer NPC most players walk right past. He only shows up sometimes, and even when he does, most players don’t know what to do with him. We are going to fix that today.

This guide walks you through the entire Early Access secret, step by step. We will also tell you why this particular quest wastes more time than any other secret on the island, and how to avoid that trap yourself.

Who Is Janus and Why Does He Matter

Janus sits at a desk on the second floor of the building right behind the Experienced Captain, near the broken cart. He is not a permanent fixture. He spawns on a rotation, so you cannot just walk up and expect him to be there every time.

This is what frustrates most players. They check once, find an empty desk, and give up. Janus is not bugged in that moment. He is simply on his own timer, and the fastest fix is not patience. It is server hopping. Leaving and rejoining a fresh server resets your odds far quicker than standing around waiting for him to appear.

Once you do find him, treat the interaction with a bit of respect. He rarely leaves that desk, and getting this far already puts you ahead of a lot of players who never spot him at all.

How to Reach Janus in the First Place

You cannot walk in through a normal door. Stand behind the mansion, face the Experienced Captain, and look up. There is a window on the second floor directly above him. Break it with an attack, or use a dash or flash step to climb through.

Once inside, check the desk. If Janus is not sitting there, do not wait it out. Hop to a different server and check again. This single habit saves more time than anything else in this quest.

The Key, the Office, and the Cutscene

Talk to Janus once you find him. He will ask for help getting into the office next door, and he mentions an old file he needs pulled from an outdated system.

Here is what you actually need to do:

  • Walk into the yellow building beside the mansion through its front entrance
  • Grab the key sitting near the desk and bookshelves
  • Head to the locked rear door of that same building
  • Interact with the door to unlock it and step inside

The key does not come to you. You have to go find it yourself, and it sits in plain sight once you are inside. Opening the rear door plays a short cutscene showing the office beyond it. It is brief, almost anticlimactic considering how much searching led up to it, but that is exactly the point. Blox Fruits often rewards small persistence with small payoffs, not big fireworks.

Once inside, interact with the computer to finish the task Janus gave you.

Reporting Back to Finish the Quest

After the cutscene ends, head back through the same upstairs window and return to Janus at his desk. This is where a lot of players slip up. They assume the quest ends at the office, close the game, and never collect the reward.

Go back to the exact spot where you first spoke to him. Talk to him again. He hands over a Tester title, and that title is your proof the secret is complete. The star for this Island Secret registers right after this conversation, not before it.

Why This Quest Trips Up So Many Players

Most Blox Fruits secrets fail because of missed items or a boss fight players are not ready for. This one is different. It fails because of timing, not difficulty.

Janus does not scale with your level, and there is no combat involved anywhere in this chain. The entire obstacle is finding him while he is actually at his desk. Players who treat this like a normal fetch quest end up standing in an empty room for far longer than they need to.

Our advice is simple. Do not dedicate a session just to Janus. Work on Middle Town’s other two Island Secrets while checking his desk every few minutes between them. That way you are never wasting time standing around, and you usually catch him without even trying.

What You Get for Finishing

Completing this secret pays out the same way most Island Secrets do. You gain five levels, and your level cap rises by five as well. Middle Town has three of these secrets in total, and clearing all three unlocks the island as a fast travel point from anywhere in the First Sea.

There is one thing worth watching for. Some players report getting only two levels instead of five when they turn in a secret. If that happens, keep talking to the NPC before you switch servers. The remaining levels usually arrive with one more conversation, and leaving too early can cost you the difference for good.

Quick Recap

  • Find Janus at his desk in the building behind the mansion, entering through the second-floor window
  • Server hop if his desk is empty, since waiting does little
  • Grab the key from the yellow building next door
  • Unlock the rear door, watch the cutscene, and use the computer inside
  • Return to Janus for the Tester title and your star

This quest looks intimidating the first time you read about it, but it only takes a few minutes once you know where to look. The real skill here is patience with the timing, not skill with combat. Keep that in mind, and you will have this star, and the levels that come with it, sooner than you expect.
