The Fairy Event is live in Grow a Garden, and the Manticore is the pet everyone is chasing. It is the update’s divine prize, and it has the most complicated ability of the three new pets. We checked the numbers, watched real gameplay, and compared the odds. Here is what we found and whether it deserves a spot in your garden.
What Is the Manticore in Grow a Garden?

The Manticore is a divine pet that arrived with the Fairy Event 2026. The event started on October 10 and runs until October 17. Two other pets came with it: the Wolpertinger and the Redcap. The Manticore is the rarest of the three. It also has the biggest hunger bar by far, at 285,000. That number matters, and we will come back to it.
How to Get the Manticore
Most players find the Manticore in the Fairy Chest. The drop chance is only 0.5 percent per chest. That ties it with the rarest seed in the update. There is a second route. The Fountain, also called the Wishing Well, lists the Manticore at tier 5, with roughly 8 percent odds.
Let us put the chest odds in plain terms. Ten chests give you about a 5 percent chance. Fifty chests give about 22 percent. One hundred chests give you about a 39 percent chance. Even after 200 chests, about one player in three still has nothing.
Some players skip the grind and buy the pet in Trade World. One seller listed it for 12,000 tokens on day one. He accepted 5,000 after a few offers. Prices usually fall after the hype fades, so patience can save you a lot.
How the Manticore Ability Works

Every 29 minutes, the Manticore eats one fruit with eight or more mutations. Then a chain begins. It has a 20 percent chance to apply the Toxic mutation to a random fruit. Each success gives another 20 percent chance to trigger the next effect. The sequence runs in this order:
- Toxic mutation on a random fruit
- A large XP boost for a pet
- A large passive boost
- A refresh of the pet’s ability
The Toxic mutation adds a 15x value modifier. Pair it with the Acidic mutation from Acid Rain, and you get Corrosive, which pays 85x. That is where the Manticore can make real money.
What the Numbers Really Mean
Here is a detail most guides skip. Every step in the chain needs its own 20 percent roll. We reach the XP boost only 4 percent of the time. The full chain, including the ability refresh, lands about 0.16 percent of the time.
The Manticore wakes up about 50 times a day. At that pace, we should expect roughly 10 Toxic fruits per day. That is decent, but it is not game-breaking. The pet gives you steady mutations, not constant jackpots.
Testing the Manticore in a Real Garden
The gameplay results back up the math. In one test, the Manticore sat in a garden full of mutated plants. Several Mimics copied its ability. For a long stretch, nothing seemed to happen. Then the chain finally triggered, and the pet received 15,000 XP.
That looks impressive on paper. In practice, it felt small for a divine pet. The tester called the pet a collector’s item more than a power pick. We think that is a fair view. The long wait between triggers hurts the experience.
The Hunger Problem
A hunger bar of 285,000 is huge. Your Manticore will need a lot of food to stay active. A hungry pet stops working, so you must plan around it.
The Moth is the easiest fix. It sings to the hungriest pet every 13 minutes and fills its bar. Two Moths remove the need to feed pets by hand. If you pull a Manticore, we suggest finding a Moth or two first.
Manticore vs. the Other Fairy Pets
The Wolpertinger is the easiest pet of the event. It is uncommon, and it speeds up plant growth. The Redcap trades pet levels for faster egg hatching, or the reverse.
The Redcap surprised us in testing. A Mimic copying it aged up pets again and again, with a short cooldown. That setup looked far stronger than the Manticore. For pure value, the Redcap may beat the divine pet right now.
Tips to Get the Most From Your Manticore
If you land one, a few habits will help. We suggest these steps:
- Keep fruit with eight or more mutations ready at all times
- Place your Manticore in the garden with your best mutated plants
- Add one or two Moths to cover its huge hunger
- Pair it with Mimic to copy the chain more often
Also think about timing. The event ends on October 17, and the pet will likely stay out of reach afterward. If you want one, open your chests early.
Is the Manticore Worth It?
Our answer is yes and no. If you collect rare pets, the Manticore is a trophy piece. Its divine rarity gives it long-term value in trades. If you care about power, the picture changes. The long cooldown, the low chain odds, and the hunger cost all slow it down.
We would not spend a huge pile of tokens on it. We would happily take one from a lucky chest. A fair price, such as the 5,000 tokens a player paid, makes it much easier to enjoy.
Final Thoughts
The Manticore is exciting, but it does not match its hype. It gives Toxic mutations, XP, and a passive boost. It also asks for a lot of care and a lot of luck. Treat it as a rare collectible with some bonus value, and you will not feel disappointed. Share your pull rates in the comments, and tell us if your Manticore did better than ours.
