How to Get the Castbound Rod in Roblox Fisch (Step-by-Step Guide)

Roblox Fisch keeps raising the bar with every update, and the Castbound Rod is one of the most unique rewards the game has introduced in recent memory. If you have been wandering the Aether or heading toward Shimmer only to hit a wall with the “Castbound for Shimmer” message, you are not alone. We have put together this complete guide covering everything you need to know, from finding the right NPC to unlocking the rod’s full potential.

What Is the Castbound Rod?

The Castbound is a fishing rod obtained from a set of quests at the Underground Music Venue, described in-game as “the culmination of a journey forged into the ultimate sword.” It is one of the more visually distinct rods in the game right now. The moment you equip it, you will notice an extra avatar behind your character, and it plays differently from standard rods, too. If you have used the Rod of the Deeps before, you will recognize what is going on, but this one pushes that concept much further.

The rod also comes with a hidden passive that makes it stand out mechanically. Every time you catch fish, the rod performs slash attacks automatically, and once you notice how it interacts with your catches, it completely changes how the rod feels to use.

What Causes the “Castbound for Shimmer” Message?

Before jumping into the quest steps, it helps to understand why this message appears in the first place. In Fisch, encountering the “Castbound for Shimmer” message while exploring areas like the Aether is an intentional game mechanic, not a bug. It acts as a warning that the specific fishing zone has special rules and restricts the use of standard fishing poles.

In these zones, regular rods will not work, no matter how strong or upgraded they are. So if you have been swapping bait or trying different spot angles, stop. The solution is entirely about getting the right rod first.

Step 1: Find the Guide NPC at the Underground Music Venue

To fix this issue, you need to unlock and equip the Castbound Rod. Go to the Underground Music Venue, which is the subway area with the DJ NPC, and talk to the Guide NPC to accept the Castbound Rod quest.

I recommend heading there early rather than waiting until you stumble into a blocked area. Accepting the quest as soon as possible lets you chip away at the objectives while doing your regular fishing sessions.

Step 2: Perfect Catch 10 Shiny Flying Fish

This is where things get genuinely challenging, and we want to be straightforward with you about that. The first task is to catch 10 Shiny Flying Fish from the ocean, and it takes both patience and the right setup.

Here is what we recommend for boosting your chances:

  • Fishing spot: The best farming spot is above the clouds or in the Vertigo upper zones, where your chances are highest. Fishing at Harvester’s Spike is also a popular recommendation due to the increased rarity rates in that area.
  • Bait: Use Minnow bait along with Blessed and Glittered modifiers.
  • Timing: Fish at night, as Flying Fish is a legendary ocean fish, and night conditions improve spawn rates.
  • Shiny tools: Equip a Shiny or Aurora Totem for better shiny chances. The Destiny Rod also gives you a 5% chance to get a shiny, and enchanting your rod with Blessed or Galactic can add to that further.

On the perfect catch side, focus on improving your timing for perfect catches. Do not spam inputs. Watch the indicator carefully and aim for clean, accurate hits. It is also better to stay in one reliable fishing spot rather than moving around too much. Building a consistent rhythm is what separates players who finish this quest quickly from those who struggle with it.

Step 3: Claim the Castbound Rod

Once you finish all 10 perfect catches, return to the Guide NPC. After turning in the quest, you will receive the Castbound Rod as your reward. At this point, equip it and make your way to Shimmer or the Aether. The warning message will be completely gone.

However, and this is something many players overlook, the rod is not fully unlocked yet at this stage.

Step 4: Unrestricting the Castbound Rod

After you get the rod, it is not fully usable yet. You need to unrestrict it. To do that, you have to perfect catching 150 fish using the Castbound Rod. This is the grind phase, and there is a smart way to handle it.

You want to go to the new area inside Vertigo and use garbage bait. You do not need high-quality catches here. You just want fast, consistent, perfect catches to hit 150 as quickly as possible. Prioritizing speed over catch quality is the right call here since the only thing that matters is the perfect catch count, not what you are pulling in.

Beyond the 150 catches, you also need to own a specific set of rods, including the Flimsy Rod, Carbon Rod, Steady Rod, Arctic Rod, Mythical Rod, Trident Rod, Rod of the Depths, Rod of the Forgotten Fang, Heaven’s Rod, Tempest Rod, Zeus Rod, Ethereal Prism Rod, Free Spirit Rod, Great Rod of Oscar, and Ruinous Oath. This is around 15 rods in total, so if you have been collecting rods throughout your playthrough, you may already be most of the way there.

Where Is Shimmer Located?

Once you have the Castbound Rod equipped, you will want to find Shimmer to start fishing there. You need to go to Vertigo and look for a cave area. The key thing you are looking for is a crack in the wall. Once you find that crack and go inside, you will come across a purple pool. That purple pool is the Shimmer fishing location, and it is exclusively accessible with the Castbound Rod equipped.

Is the Castbound Rod Worth the Grind?

Honestly, yes. The combination of its visual flair, hidden passive mechanics, and exclusive access to restricted areas like Shimmer makes it one of the more rewarding grinds in the current version of Fisch. Once it is fully unrestricted, it is easily one of the strongest and most unique rods in the game. The 150 perfect catches and rod collection requirements feel like a lot on paper, but once you build a rhythm in Vertigo with garbage bait, the counter moves faster than you expect.

If you are already grinding the current update, we would say the Castbound Rod is absolutely worth prioritizing. The quest teaches you the value of consistent, perfect catches, which is a skill that carries over to everything else in Fisch, anyway.
