We have spent the last few days fishing through the Summer Camp update in Adopt Me, and the Rainbow Karp and Rainbow Trout combo has turned out to be the hardest grind we have faced this season. Most players will catch dozens of Bronze and Silver Karp without much trouble, but the Rainbow Karp barely shows up. We want to walk you through exactly what we found while chasing it, so you do not waste hours guessing the way we did.
What The Rainbow Karp Actually Is
The Rainbow Karp is a temporary item tied to the Summer Camp event, and it does not behave like the other fish in the lineup. We cannot trade it to other players, and it disappears from our inventory once the event wraps up. It only exists to be exchanged for the Rainbow Trout. We tried using a Bronze Rod, a Silver Rod, and a Gold Rod, and all three rods can technically catch it, but the higher rods make the actual catch far less painful.

What surprised us most is how rare the spawn really is. We checked the fishing spots around Adoption Island repeatedly across several in-game days, and the Rainbow Karp showed up only a handful of times. We noticed it tends to appear near the open water close to the Fishing Shop, and occasionally near the docks further out. If we had to guess based on our own sessions, the spawn rate feels deliberately low to keep this fish feeling special instead of routine.
How We Finally Caught One
Catching any Karp comes down to timing. We had to walk close to the water, cast our line, then aim directly at the fish before it would bite. Once it bit, a short window opened where we needed to click fast to reel it in. The Rainbow Karp behaves the same way mechanically, but the difference is the visual tell. It flashes through rainbow colors instead of sitting as a single solid shade, so once we spotted that shimmer, we knew to drop everything and focus on that one spot.

Patience matters more here than skill. We found it easier to stand near a fishing spot and just keep recasting rather than running across the map chasing every rumor of a sighting.
A few habits made the hunt smoother for us:
- Stay near one fishing spot instead of running between multiple locations
- Recast immediately after every miss instead of waiting around
- Watch closely for the shifting rainbow color before committing to a click
- Keep a Karp Bait ready at all times so a sighting never goes to waste
Turning The Rainbow Karp Into A Rainbow Trout
Once we had our Rainbow Karp in hand, we headed straight to the Fishing Shop to make the trade. The exchange asks for one Rainbow Karp along with a steep acorn cost of 70,000. That number sounds intimidating at first, but acorns build up quickly if we stay consistent with Taskboard tasks, fishing, and the Skydiving mini game across the Airship.

The Rainbow Trout itself sits in the Ultra Rare tier, and it is genuinely one of the better-looking pets from this entire update. We like how its design leans into a soft, shimmering palette rather than going overboard with effects. It also follows the usual Adopt Me trick progression, learning Sit as a Newborn, moving up through Joyful and Beg, then unlocking Jump and its two final tricks once it reaches Full Grown.
We also noticed it has Neon and Mega Neon variants. The Neon version glows along its body spots, fin stripes, and the underside of its head. The Mega Neon version takes that same glow and cycles it through the full rainbow spectrum, which makes it stand out instantly in a busy server.
Why This Pet Is Worth The Grind
We know fishing for a single rare spawn can feel frustrating, especially when other pets in this update have a flat, predictable cost. The Clubtail Dragonfly only needs acorns. The Tealwood Monster needs a bait grind that we can control through repeated effort. The Rainbow Trout is different because it depends partly on luck, and that is exactly what makes it feel rewarding once we finally land it.
We think this design choice fits the fishing theme well. A real fishing trip always carries some unpredictability, and Adopt Me captures that feeling better than we expected. We would rather chase something with a bit of randomness than unlock every pet through a guaranteed shop purchase.
Our Honest Take
We will not pretend this was a quick process. We spent close to two hours across multiple sessions before our first Rainbow Karp appeared, and we know other players have reported similar wait times. If anything, this might be the single hardest pull in the entire Summer Camp lineup so far.
Our advice is simple. Keep your Karp Bait stocked, stay near active fishing spots, and treat every Rainbow sighting like a priority catch. The acorn cost for the Rainbow Trout is steep, but it is far more manageable than the rare spawn itself.
We will keep testing fishing spots around the map and update this guide if we find a pattern behind where the Rainbow Karp prefers to appear. For now, grab your rod, stay close to the water, and do not give up after a few misses. The shimmer is worth the wait.
