Anime Expeditions The Drink – How to Get and Evolve Trunks (2026)

Anime Expeditions keeps adding new units, and The Drink is one of the more interesting ones to chase. Based on Trunks from Dragon Ball, this Mythic unit does not appear on any summon banner. You can only unlock it through a specific encounter route, which makes it feel more like a hidden reward than a standard pull. If you enjoy hunting down units through gameplay instead of pure luck, this one is worth your time.

We have broken down the entire process below, from finding the right encounter to evolving the unit into its stronger form.

What The Drink Actually Is

The Drink is a Mythic unit with Hydro and Physical typing. It is tied to the Warriors Saga update, the same update that brought several other Dragon Ball characters into the game. Unlike Cell or Vegeta, who come from banner pulls, The Drink is earned purely through an in-game encounter. That makes it feel more rewarding once you finally land it, since no amount of luck with summons will get you there faster.

You need four copies of this unit if you want to push it to max ascension. That number matters a lot for how you plan your farming sessions, since one run only gets you one copy.

Finding the Trunks Encounter

The unlock process starts inside an Expedition encounter zone, specifically in East Town. These zones are marked clearly on the map and spawn a random NPC each time you enter. Sometimes you will get a completely different character. Other times, you will run into the one you actually want, the NPC tied to The Drink.

When you do find him, he tells you he does not have much time and hands over an item called a Toy Capsule before disappearing. This capsule is the key to the whole unlock, so treat it carefully once you have it.

A few things to keep in mind while you search for this encounter:

  • Encounter NPCs are random, so you may need to reset and re-enter East Town multiple times.
  • The Toy Capsule only appears after you interact with the correct NPC, not just any encounter.
  • You do not need to complete anything else in that encounter zone once you have the capsule in hand.

This randomness is honestly the most tedious part of the whole grind. Nothing about finding the NPC itself is difficult; it is simply a matter of patience and repeated attempts.

Using the Toy Capsule

Once you have the Toy Capsule, head back to the lobby. From there, open your items and use the capsule. This automatically loads a special challenge stage tied to the East Town Expedition. Clearing this stage is what actually gives you The Drink as a unit.

The stage itself is not particularly hard if your units are reasonably built. Enemy health in most runs sits somewhere around five to ten thousand HP, which is manageable for a mid- to late-game roster. The real risk lies elsewhere. The Toy Capsule is a one-time-use item. If you lose the stage, you may not get a second chance with that same capsule. That single detail changes how you should approach the run.

Before you queue in, prepare your team properly. Bringing two farm units alongside your strongest damage dealers makes the run far smoother and reduces the chance of a wasted attempt. Since you cannot undo a loss here, it pays to overprepare rather than assume the stage will be easy just because the numbers look low.

If you already have a strong roster built for other Expedition content, this stage should not give you much trouble. Newer players with weaker teams might want to grind a bit before attempting it, simply to avoid burning the capsule on a failed run.

If your account is still catching up on general team building, our guide on Gohan in Anime Expeditions walks through fast ways to build a strong damage dealer, which pairs well with the farm strategy needed for this Trunks challenge.

Evolving The Drink

Getting the base unit is only half the job. Evolving The Drink turns it into The Drink, Juicebox form, and this is where the unit becomes genuinely useful for tougher content. Evolution happens at the Evolve platform in the main lobby, the same spot used for every other evolvable unit in the game.

To evolve The Drink, you need a mix of Sprites and Gold. Specifically, you will need twenty Red Sprites, twenty Blue Sprites, one Rainbow Sprite, and ten thousand Gold. None of these numbers are extreme compared to other Mythic evolutions, but the Rainbow Sprite requirement can slow you down if you have not been farming Challenges regularly.

Red, Blue, and Rainbow Sprites mostly drop from Challenge stages, though you can also craft them using Grey Sprites if you are short. Grey Sprites and Gold come from Story stages, so if your evolution materials are lagging, running Story content for a while is the most efficient fix.

Why The Evolved Form Matters

The evolved version of The Drink shifts into a support role built entirely around Follow-Up Attacks. This is a mechanic where a unit attacks automatically when a nearby ally lands certain hits, and The Drink amplifies that mechanic significantly once evolved.

Its passives increase range, lower the requirement for triggering Special Attacks, and boost the raw damage of follow-up hits. One passive also applies a mark on enemies that raises follow-up damage further and adds a physical weakness, stacking nicely if you already run crit-focused carries. During its transformation window, the unit turns those follow-ups into guaranteed critical hits, which is a big damage spike for a short period.

This makes The Drink far more effective in a team that already generates a lot of follow-up attacks. Pairing it with crit-heavy carries or transformation units gets the most value out of its kit. On its own, it is decent. Alongside the right teammates, it becomes a real damage multiplier.

Final Thoughts

The Drink is a strong example of how Anime Expeditions rewards players who explore encounter zones instead of only chasing banner pulls. The unlock process is simple in concept but repetitive in practice, especially since you need four copies for max ascension. Plan your team before opening the Toy Capsule, farm your Sprites through Challenges and Story stages, and you will have a genuinely useful support unit once fully evolved.

If you are still building out your broader roster alongside this grind, pairing units like Gohan with The Drink gives you a solid mix of raw damage and follow-up support for harder Expedition content.
