How to Get Redcap in Grow a Garden – Fairy Chest Odds and Tips

The Fairy Event 2026 is live in Grow a Garden, and the Redcap is one of its best prizes. This Legendary pet looks small, but its ability can change how you level pets and hatch eggs. We checked the drop odds, the event system, and what the Redcap actually does. Here is how to get one before the event ends on October 17.

What Is the Redcap in Grow a Garden?

The Redcap arrived with the Fairy Event 2026, alongside the Wolpertinger and the Manticore. It sits in the Legendary tier and has a hunger of 40,000, so it needs steady feeding to keep growing.

Its passive is called Redcap’s Curse. Roughly every 19 to 20 minutes, it picks one of two effects. It can lower one of your pets by a level to shorten a random egg’s hatch time. Or it can slow an egg’s hatch time to give one of your pets a level. Each trigger also gives the Redcap XP equal to 12% of its current level.

How To Get the Redcap

The Redcap comes from one source only: the Fairy Chest. It has a 14.5% chance of dropping from each chest. That matches the Glimmervine seed, and it makes the Redcap far easier to land than the Manticore.

Every Fairy Chest holds one of six rewards:

  • Jellycap Seed: 35%
  • Wolpertinger: 35%
  • Glimmervine Seed: 14.5%
  • Redcap: 14.5%
  • Prism Plume Seed: 0.5%
  • Manticore: 0.5%

How To Earn Fairy Chests

Fairy Chests come from Fairy Favors, the main questline at the Wishing Well. Every hour, roaming fairies bless your garden and add the Glimmering mutation to your crops. You then hand those crops to the Wishing Well to finish each stage.

The well asks for specific crops each time. Hand those in first, because they give bonus Fairy Points. Then submit any leftover Glimmering crops for extra points. Each finished stage lets you pick one reward from three options. Chest chances rise with every tier:

  • Tier 2: 7.69% chance of a chest
  • Tier 3: 17.24% chance of a chest
  • Tier 4: 22.73% chance of a chest
  • Tier 5: 27.03% chance, and this reward gives three chests

You can repeat the questline for 7,500 Fairy Points. The stage rewards pay back more than that, so each loop leaves you ahead. Push for tier 4 and tier 5 as often as you can.

How Many Chests Do We Need?

One chest gives a 14.5% shot at the Redcap. Three chests raise that to about 37.5%. Five chests bring us to roughly 54%, and ten chests to about 79%. Twenty chests push the odds to around 96%.

Each opening is independent, so the game does not owe you a drop after a bad streak. We suggest planning for about ten chests. If the Redcap shows up early, keep going for the Wolpertinger and the seeds, since they come from the same chest.

Is the Redcap Worth Getting?

It depends on how you play. The Redcap works as a trade between pet levels and egg time, and that trade is not always good. When it lowers a pet’s level, you lose progress. When it raises a level, you gain it. Over time, the effects roughly offset, so on its own the Redcap feels average.

The real value shows up with the Mimic. Early tests suggest a Mimic that copies the Redcap can stack level gains very quickly. Some players already call the combo broken. We treat that with care, because these are early reports and the developers may patch it. Still, it is worth testing if you own a Mimic.

Turn on pet passive notifications before you test. The ability description is confusing, and the notifications show exactly what happens on each trigger. Start with one egg and one Mimic, then add more once you understand the pattern.

Tips Before the Event Ends

Time matters here, because the event closes on October 17. The Redcap is event-exclusive, so you cannot farm it later. These habits help us make the most of the days left:

  • Keep your best Glimmering crops for the Wishing Well requests.
  • Open chests as soon as you earn them.
  • Wait before paying high Trade World prices for new pets.

That last point is worth repeating. New pets often carry inflated prices on day one, and values tend to settle within days. If you miss the Redcap, patience usually costs less than panic buying.

We also suggest finishing your Fairy Favor loops before you chase side goals. Chests are the main prize, and the questline is the fastest route to them.

Chasing the rarest pet from this chest as well? The Manticore shares the same Fairy Chest at only 0.5%. Our Grow a Garden Manticore guide explains how to get it and whether it earns a pet slot.

Final Thoughts

The Redcap is a solid Legendary pet with a clear path to unlock it. Earn Fairy Chests through Fairy Favors, aim for the higher tiers, and expect to open around ten chests. Pair it with a Mimic if you want to test its strongest use. Start now, because the event ends on October 17.
